Why is Adrenal Health Important?

If there’s one word to associate with your adrenals it’s stress. As a healthcare provider, I worry that people are neglecting their adrenal health, and often unknowingly. Your adrenals are situated on top of your kidneys, and are important for immunity, blood pressure & stress management.

Here are 3 reasons to prioritize for better health and emotional wellness:

🏵Better blood sugar balance: When you skip meals or eat excessive amounts of sugar, your blood sugar goes on a roller coaster ride. This “ride” generates a stress response in the body (ex. when we get “hangry” or experience cravings).

>>Always eat breakfast, don’t postpone meals & skip high carbs & sugars.

🏵Sustained thyroid health:
When excessive amounts of cortisol hit your system (coming from your adrenals) this impacts your ability to convert essential thyroid hormones. This, in turn, creates an inflammatory response that leads to many diseases & energy issues.

>>Keep stress levels managed with exercise, bonding & mindfulness practices.

🏵Menopausal health: Once menopause has occurred, (absence of period) the hormonal responsibility shifts from the ovaries to the adrenals. It’s kind of like a relay race. However, if a person is already stressed out, the adrenals don’t handle this exchange well. This is when hot flashes & night sweats seem to be never ending.

>>Prioritize your self-care by making sure you keep stress down, and start this well into your 30s so that your menopause transitions with ease.

💛Acupuncture is an amazing tool for nourishing adrenal health. It does this by settling the nervous system & buffering cortisol. Unity Acupuncture would be honored to support you.
