How Does Acupuncture Work?

Documented as being well over 6,000 years old, Chinese Medicine is actually an eight branch system of health that includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, qigong exercises, massage/bodywork, nutritional therapy, meditation, feng shui and moxibustion (aka moxa).

Chinese Medicine Explanation: Acupuncture is the method of treatment based on influencing the body's qi (chee) flow by inserting needles in specific points on the body, called acupuncture points. Acupuncture points lie along meridians, or pathways, where qi (chee) circulates & travels to the limbs, head & torso, integrating the body as whole.

Each meridian (14 in total exist) is connected to an organ. For example, the heart meridian travels along the inner arm & chest, connecting with the physical heart. Thus, needling an acupuncture point on the heart meridian will benefit physical heart health, providing a sense of calm to the mind, body, spirit axis.

Western Medicine Explanation: The science of acupuncture has been proven. Over centuries of observation & experience, the system of Chinese Medicine was developed & determined that certain acupuncture points have functions & actions. Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord & brain. These biochemical changes stimulate the body's natural healing abilities & promote physical & emotional well-being.
